Loving Soy Candles by Sherry Bloom
I adore aromatherapy candles. To me, they just take everything I do around my home to the next level. Whether it’s relaxing in the evenings, hosting parties, or having a romantic dinner with my hubby, I use candles to set the mood and make everything into an occasion.
Of course, it’s ideal to have a huge selection of votives, tea lights, jar candles, and pillars to choose from. And in all different scents so you have something citrus-y for cocktails on the deck, something musky for romantic interludes, and your favorite essential oil note for “me” times.
Unfortunately, a candle habit like this has its drawbacks. I have kids, and although I love my strongly scented candles, I don’t want to always be sending smoky toxins into the air. Paraffin candles, which are your average cheap candle, release soot and other toxins (like formaldehyde!) into the atmosphere of your home. They also burn unevenly, which can cause wax spills and fire.
I can’t have those types of products around my kids, but I also don’t want to spend a fortune on beeswax candles. Beeswax is nice, but Casa del Sherry is not the Vatican. I had to find aromatherapy candles that were inexpensive, but that weren’t cheaply made.
That’s when I discovered soy candles. Soy candles are clean-burning, which means no soot or poisons in the air. They also have a slow burn rate, which means no wax spills, and no long wicks getting out of control.
Next it was time to find the perfect soy candle. With soy wax becoming the trend of the day in the candle industry, new buyers run the risk of purchasing shoddy knock-offs. Always shop with care, candle lovers!
