Thanks for the Memories, Yankee Candles by Laura-Jane Kerr

They say that scents are the most powerful memory-triggers. I don’t doubt it, since I can remember exactly what cologne my husband wore on our wedding day, and whenever I smell jasmine, I’m reminded of our honeymoon in the Florida Keys.

I suppose that’s also how these candle companies suck you in. I’ve been buying the same brand of candles for thirty years – ever since I was making my first little apartment cosy with tea lights. So when the Sleeping Centre asked me to tell them about my favorites candles, I had to say Yankee Candle.

These days I buy all my candles online, but before this new age I used to make regular trips downtown to my Yankee Candle store. It was always such a pleasure to walk into the room of spicy scents and see the friendly faces at the counter. A lot of candle makers come and go, but Yankee Candle has always been around. Maybe I’m just getting old, but in this world of flash-in-the-pan mega-corporations, a long-standing brand that I know I can trust means a lot to me.

And although I enjoyed my trips to the Yankee Candle store, I’m enjoying shopping online even more. I never even realized how many different scents Yankee Candle made (almost 150!) until I first visited their website.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll also appreciate how Yankee Candle is always coming out with fresh new scents. This spring, for example, they introduced Mojito Lime, Strawberry Daquiri, and Mandarin Mamosa. I’ll tell you, when me and the girls get together for an afternoon by the pool, we get a real kick out of having Mojitos with Mojito Lime Yankees spicing up the air. Talk about aromatherapy candles!

That’s what I appreciate about Yankee Candle. If you can imagine a scent for a particular scenario, they’ve got it. Balsam & Cedar, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Pomegranate, and Sweet Honeysuckle are just a few of my absolute favorites. And most come in a great selection of jars, votive, pillars, and even gorgeous hanging lanterns.

Yankee Candle has gone up in price over the years, but another great thing about this online shopping is that there are always sales on! I can usually find my favorite candles for as much as 50% off. Not even an old penny-pincher like me can complain about that.

In thirty years I’ve never had a Yankee Candle that made a mess or gave me trouble. All my candles have given my husband and I hours of enjoyment and wonderful memories. Any serious candle lovers who haven’t yet done so simply must try Yankee Candle out for themselves.
